Mission & History

Lincoln Animal Ambassadors is addressing the root causes of animal homelessness in Lincoln and the surrounding area.

We are an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization with no paid employees. Our volunteers are a variety of people who are concerned about the well-being of animals. Lincoln Animal Ambassadors is an excellent venue for people to help animals in the community without the commitment of rescue work.

A significant portion of our funding comes from the community through donations and fundraising events. As a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations to LAA are tax-deductible. Our supporters are committed to our mission; without them, our programs couldn't exist. We would also like to thank our sponsors listed below for their significant contributions and support.

LAA was founded by a group of people who wanted to reduce the number of animals that went to shelters and were euthanized. Founded in June of 2008, our first mission was improving the lives of animals and alleviating cruelty in Lincoln and the surrounding area. We promote enriching our community through progressive thinking, education, awareness and public support.

Our first major initiative was the establishment of a Pet Food Bank to help individuals who were struggling to feed their pets. Our first Pet Food Bank was established at St Matthew's Episcopal Church, which served as a drop-off and pickup location for individuals to Donate and pick-up food. The program has steadily grown and changed over the years. We are now distributing several thousand pounds of food every month from our own warehouse space at the Center for People in Need.

Shortly after establishing the Pet Food Bank, it became clear that our community was also in need of an low-cost spay/neuter program. We recognized that the best way to reduce the number of homeless animals was to prevent them in the first place. In partnership with several area veterinary clinics, we were able to offer spay/neuter procedures for whatever the guardian could afford. Since its inception, we have altered about 400 animals annually - a number we hope to see keep going up!

We have continued to grow with the help of our donors and volunteers!
