Lincoln Animal Ambassadors offers a low-cost spay/neuter program for those unable to pay the full cost of altering their pets. We currently work with several local veterinarian’s offices using a voucher system. For more information on our spay/neuter program, please leave a message on our voice mail line at 402-817-1168. Please send your tax-deductible monetary donation for our low-cost spay/neuter program to: Lincoln Animal Ambassadors, PO Box 67072, Lincoln, Nebraska 68506.
The Problem:
If your cat or dog is not spayed or neutered, you are contributing to the pet overpopulation problem. Because there are simply not enough homes for all of the cats and dogs, this problem leads to the senseless euthanasia of healthy and loving companion animals. Euthanasia is the leading cause of death for dogs and cats in this country. The solution to this disturbing problem is you! Please be a responsible and kind pet guardian and spay or neuter your cat or dog!
The Numbers:
· Two cats and their offspring can produce 420,000 cats in seven years. · Two dogs and their offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in six years. · Spaying or neutering just one animal can help save thousands of lives. · Nationwide, 56% of dogs and 72% of cats entering shelters are euthanized. Many of these animals are healthy and less than two years of age.
The Facts:
· Pets that have been spayed or neutered live longer, healthier lives. This can save you money on vet bills. · The earlier they are sterilized the better and no pet is too old for this safe surgery. · Sterilized pets behave better and are easier to train. They are more calm, more focused on you, and less likely to roam. · Even if you find homes for each kitten or puppy in your pet’s litter, it means one less home for one of the thousands of pets in shelters waiting for a home. · Dogs and cats do not want to experience birth, animals reproduce only from instinct not from emotion. · The pet overpopulation problem not only leads to needless euthanasia's but to the neglect and abuse of animals as well as the number of strays in our community.
The Solution:
Have your pet spayed or neutered. It is a safe surgery and a healthy animal recovers quickly. The surgery is not dangerous or painful and it is much less stressful on your pet than having a litter of kittens or puppies. Spaying and neutering is the only way to reduce the number of cats and dogs being euthanized.
