Meeting Notes

Report on our Wine and Howl Event

At the time of the meeting, we did not have a final amount earned to report.  We hope to have final accounting early next week.

Overall, the Wine & Howl was very successful, we had a very good turn out and everyone seemed to have a good time.

A short discussion was held:

- Should we have our event on the first Saturday of May 2010?

- At the Prime Country Winery or a different location?

-- Concerns were raised about Prime Country Winery based primarily on the fact that animals are not allowed in the building.

- Raffle prize ideas (pet friendly vacation, big screen TV, etc.)

- Next year we need more pet related vendors - have groomers stop by, they could have one hour time slots and give out "samples" of their work (trim nails or something).  Would be good for the groomer to pass out their business cards, etc., while pet owners could sample their work and see if the groomer was compatible with their pet.  Massage demo of T-Touch.

- Basic obedience tips given by trainers.

- Next year we should have our event from about noon to 5:00 pm with music for the duration (mix of a band or two, perhaps a jazz group, etc., nothing wild & crazy, just easy listening music).

- Research to see if we need, can obtain "event insurance" to cover all our events

- It was suggested that we look at the Denton TX website for ideas.

- Additional events & contests such as crafts for kids, dog in the tunnel & A-frame jump, Glamfur shots, ribbons or trophies for the tallest dog, smallest pet, etc.

The tentative name of the group is the Nebraska Voters for the Animals.  They will meet once a month.  A database will be developed which will contain a variety of information on the politicians, to include their voting record and those who are newly appointed will be sent candidate questionnaires so that we know their stance on the various issues.  The Nebraska Voters for the Animals will send out appropriate information to the voters before statewide and city/local elections.

Status of Feral Cat Ordinance

The ordinance has been submitted to Bruce Dart, head of the Lancaster County Health Department.  This is the department that governs Animal Control.  A call will be made to Bruce Dart this month to set up a meeting with him and LAA representatives to discuss any suggestions or changes in the proposed ordinance and gain his suggestions on the best way of proposing it to the City Council.

Letters to City Council Members

Pauline read off portions of the letter.  It was decided that we were going to mail the original, email a copy, and follow up with a telephone call.
